Gabriela Spanic, also known as Gaby Spanic, is famous for her lengthy history in telenovelas (Spanish soap operas). Beginning her career in 1991 on the series Mundo de Fieras, she has spent few years since this time outside of her chosen acting specialty. She acted in some short-run telenovelas including Divina Obsesión, Rosangelica, María Celeste, Morena Clara, and Quirpa de Tres Mujeres. In this role, she plays a woman that struggles to tell her family her medical secret and bravely believes that she must find a new match for her husband. Upon choosing the new maid to fill this position, the movie takes a surprising turn from a tear-jerker to a suspense film, showing Gabriela Spanic’s ability to cross theatrical genres with poise. This made-for-TV movie was just what Spanic needed to prove that she had the talent to play any role.

She also starred in the series La Usurpadora, initially switching roles back and forth with her real-life identical twin Daniela Spanic. In scenes in which they both were required to appear, she could easily play either character. Later episodes utilized camera and video tricks to make it appear as though they were both simultaneously in the same scene. This series proved to be one of the most significant roles of Spanic’s career, as it was received worldwide in more than 120 countries. In addition, La Usurpadora was the first telenovela to attain more than 20 points on the American television viewing grid.

Following this interesting series, Gabriela Spanic was offered guest roles on Por Tú Amor and La Intrusa. Her 2002 soap opera La Venganza was so successful as to be nominated for Soap of the Year by the INTE award program. She also guest starred on the successful action- romance series Tierra de Pasiones and dramatic romance Decisiones. As if acting was not challenging enough, Gabriela Spanic has also lent her singing voice to tracks that premiered on her numerous telenovelas. In 2010, Gabriela Spanic was cast in the starring role of Ivana Dorantes Rangel in the telenovela Soy Tú Dueña: A Woman of Steel. Sold in 26 countries, this series was the remake of La Dueña, which aired in 1995. As the primary female antagonist in this series, Spanic showed her villainous side, with her character stealing other women’s fiancés and otherwise ruining the relationships of the other characters. 2011 brought her next starring role, as Emperatriz Jurado, the title character in the telenovela Emperatriz.
